2022 Malaria Day: Zamfara Red cross recruits 150 volunteers to sensitize community

The Nigeria Red cross society, Zamfara State branch has recruited 150 volunteers to assist communities in the prevention and control of malaria in the state.

This was disclosed on Monday in Gusau, by the branch secretary Red cross society, Ibrahim Bello Garba at the Emir Palace to mark World Malaria day in the state. 

“The theme for this year’s 2022 celebration is:  Advance Equity, Build  Resilience End Malaria”.

According to him, the aim of this year’s world Malaria day is to create awareness about Malaria and it’s devastating effect globally and provide an opportunity for government and international Communities; to intensify efforts towards providing access to affordable, safe and effective malaria interventions to all community. 

According to him, Zamfara State branch of Nigeria Red cross will work hand in hand with other partners towards total eradication of Malaria in the state.

He said, the state government has made progress towards Malaria elimination, which it has formed a good strategic partnership with stakeholders that include media, traditional and Religious Institution and implementing partners.

“Already we have 150 volunteers members of red cross in the state that are working in 8 local government areas on daily basis, aimed to control the menace of  malaria through Sensitization of community.”

He disclosed that every day the volunteers will go round and ensure they sensitize community on how to use mosquito net.

“Normally when we identified cases of malaria, we do refer them to the facility that’s close to that community.

“Zamfara State branch of Red cross join other states today to mark the hallmark of the event with other partners who participate in rally from Yariman Bakura Specialist hospital to Emir of Gusau palace”.

In his remarks, the Emir of Gusau Alhaji Ibrahim Bello who was represented by the secretary Gusau Emirate Council,  Alhaji Sambo A.Sambo called on stakeholders and Community to stand and fight against malaria.
