Ahead of the national convention of the All Progressive Congress (APC), a chairmanship aspirant, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has withdrawn from the race.
He hinged his withdrawal on respect for zoning and party supremacy.
Addressing newsmen Monday night in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, Shinkafi said the withdrawal also followed his respect for President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I want to tell you that today I decided to withdraw from the contest as a man who respects party supremacy and leaders of the party.
“I am sure that most of you have been following the trends of activities of our party, the struggle has been on, I have all the the requisite credentials both financially and otherwise.
“The party has taken a position that the national chairman should go to the North Central zone and I respect the supremacy.
“President Buhari is the leader of the party and he has taken a position. I have always told you that I will contest if the position is zoned to North west, I do not want to oppose what my president has said”.
He explained that he would not go on to contest a position which has been zoned to north central by the party.
He thanked all those who supported him morally during the struggle to run as National chairman, particularly Governor Bello Matawalle, care taker National chairman, Mai Mala Buni, Governor Zulum among others.
