Director-General flags-off NYSC National Sanitation Exercise in FCT

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim on Saturday flagged-off the NYSC National Sanitation Exercise at the palace of the Sa’Nyanyayi of Nyanya, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

A statement signed by Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi Director, Press and Public Relations said the Director-General emphasized that there was the need to enlighten the general public on the benefits of good hygiene and also the health risks of poor hygiene.

He said the report from the last Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) exercise attributed most ailments that were diagnosed to poor environental sanitation habits.


The exercise, according to General Ibrahim was an avenue to empower members of the public with adequate information on personal and environmental hygiene, with special focus on personal hygiene, regular environmental sanitation, proper waste disposal among others.

He commended the NYSC Officials as well as Corps Members who put in their best in the humanitarian service to the community.

The Director-General further urged the Corps Members to always intensify efforts on service to humanity.


The theme for this year; Clean Environment/Good Hygiene: Panacea For Good Health and Long Life”, was meant to rally members of the public to key into the sanitation exercise towards living in clean and hygienic environments.


The sanitation exercise which was held in all the Thirty-Six States of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, would continue every fortnight.
