Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, has commiserated with the families of victims of the Ngala IDP camp inferno in Borno State.
Fourteen (14) persons reportedly lost their lives in the Thursday fire incidence.
In a statement signed by the Adviser on Media to the Minister, Salisu Dambatta, and made available to SINL Nigeria on Friday, the Minister described the incidence as “sad and shocking”.
She prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and quick recovery for the injured, adding that the Almighty should save his servants from future recurrence.
“I was touched by the loss of so many lives and property caused by the fire, and prayed that it should never happen again in the future,” she said.
The Minister promised that the root causes of the fire would be investigated thoroughly as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari in order to avert future recurrence.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has directed an immediate provision of relief to the victims and the Ministry is working assiduously to do that.”
She said that the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and other agencies of the Ministry would act fast and deliver needed aid to the IDPs.
